LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The top-ranked Alabama men's golf team continues its busy schedule this weekend at the 2014 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, hosted at the par-72 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club by UNLV.
Fresh off a second place finish at the SMU Querencia Cabo Collegiate that snapped an 11-tournament winning streak, the Crimson Tide is set to take on one of the toughest fields in collegiate golf. The 15-team Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters features seven of the top 10 teams in the country with 12 teams in the top 25 according to the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches Poll.
Alabama will be joined by No. 2 Oklahoma State, No.3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 California (defending champion), No. 5 Georgia, No. 10 Stanford, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 18 Texas, No. 19 UCLA, No. 21 New Mexico and No. 27 Arizona State. The rest of the field includes TCU, Texas Tech and UNLV.
The 54-hole stroke play tournament will be played over three days (March 7-9), with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. (PST) or 10 a.m. (CST) each day off the first and 10th holes.
Head coach Jay Seawell's lineup for the weekend is anchored by seniors Bobby Wyatt, Cory Whitsett and Trey Mullinax along with sophomore Tom Lovelady and true freshman Robby Shelton.
Shelton is second in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index with his teammates Mullinax and Wyatt coming in at No. 5 and No. 9, respectively. Both Shelton and Wyatt posted top 10 finishes at the Cabo Collegiate, with Shelton earning third place honors and Wyatt tying for eighth.
