Current and Future Crimson Tide Players Shine at Jones Cup Invitational

SEA ISLAND, Ga. - University of Alabama golfers Bud Cauley and Hunter Hamrick, along with signees Bobby Wyatt and Cory Whitsett, turned in an impressive weekend at the 2010 Jones Cup Invitational at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Wyatt, a Mobile, Ala., native and Tide signee led the way with a fifth-place finish, carding rounds of 75, 76 and 74 for a 9-over-par 225 on the par-72, 7,321-yard Ocean Forest layout. Wyatt is ranked fourth in the latest Golfweek Junior Boys rankings. He was just three strokes behind the tournament winner. UA sophomore Hunter Hamrick finished eighth, just two strokes behind Wyatt at 11-over-par 227. He fired rounds of 73, 75 and 79. Hamrick is ranked fourth in the most recent collegiate Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index after his victory at the Western Refining Collegiate and the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. He boasts a 71.69 stroke average over 13 rounds as a sophomore for the Tide. Alabama sophomore Bud Cauley also turned in a strong tournament with a 24th-place finish in the 84-man field. He carded rounds of 76, 76 and 80 en route to a 16-over-par 232. Cauley is the top-ranked golfer nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and has one tournament victory in the fall, coming at the Isleworth Collegiate invitational. He is averaging 71.29 strokes per round to lead the Crimson Tide. Whitsett, a Tide signee out of Houston finished in a tie for 24th along with Cauley. Whitsett finished at 16-over-par 232 after rounds of 76, 79 and 77. The Crimson Tide resumes their 2009-10 schedule with the first tournament of the spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 21-23 at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
