Alabama's Whitsett Finishes Tied for Second at Jones Cup Invitational

SEA ISLAND, Ga. - The University of Alabama's Cory Whitsett finished tied for second at the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational on Sunday at the Ocean Forest Golf Club with a 1-under-par total of 215.

Whitsett, a native of Houston, Texas, held the 36-hole lead after rounds of 68 and 72. He shot 3-over 75 on Sunday and saw North Florida's Sean Dale shot 69 in the final round to clinch the victory at 3-under 213.

Tide junior Trey Mullinax of Birmingham, Ala., posted a top-20 finish at 10-over-par 226. He shot 80 on the final day to tie for 18th. Bobby Wyatt and Justin Thomas each tied for 26th at 11-over-par 227. The remainder of the Crimson Tide's seven-man contingent at the Jones Cup included Tom Lovelady finishing tied for 63rd while Lee Knox was 87th and Dru Love was 88th.

The Alabama golf team will begin the 2012 portion of its schedule on Feb. 17-19, at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
