WINDERMERE, Fla. - The fourth-ranked Alabama men's golf team took the second-round lead at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Monday with a 4-over-par round of 292 at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Country Club.
The Crimson Tide has a four-shot cushion going into Tuesday's final round. Alabama is 7-over-par 583 after 36 holes with No. 21 LSU and No. 5 Stanford tied for second place at 11-over 587. TCU is in fourth place at 13-over 589 while No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 2 Florida are tied for fifth place at 19-over 595.
Junior Hunter Hamrick and true freshman Cory Whitsett still lead the Tide individually after matching 2-over-par 74s in Monday's second round. Hamrick and Whitsett are tied for eighth place at 1-over-par 145. Tennessee's Robin Wingardh leads all individuals at 5-under 139 after rounds of 71 and 68.
Bud Cauley rebounded from his opening-round 76 with a 1-under 71 in round two and is tied for 15th at 3-over 147. Cauley's 71 on Monday was Alabama's lowest round of the day. He opened with three birdies on the first seven holes before bogeys on the ninth, 11th and 15th holes, dropped him back to even par. He birdied the par-4 16th to close his round and get back in red numbers.
Freshman Bobby Wyatt, who is tied for 21st after two rounds, played the final 10 holes in 3-under par with no bogeys to post a solid round of 1-over 73. He is 5-over 149 going into the final round. Scott Strohmeyer followed his 73 in the first round with a 4-over 76 in round two. He is tied with Wyatt and five others for 21st position at 5-over 149.
The Crimson Tide will play in the championship flight on Tuesday with LSU and Stanford during the final round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. Alabama is scheduled to tee off the first hole at 8:25 a.m.
