Men's Golf in Second after Round One at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - The Alabama men's golf team finished day one of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Monday on the par-70 7,204-yard Old Overton Golf Club with an 8-over 288 after 18 holes.
The second round was not completed due to a fog delay prior to the start of Monday's first round. The conclusion of the second round will be played Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CDT). Nine of the 12 teams have players remaining on the course. The third round is scheduled to be played starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Crimson Tide sits in second after the first round, trailing leader Florida by six strokes. The Gators shot 2-over 282 on the opening-18 holes.
Leading the way individually for the Crimson Tide was junior Cory Whitsett, who shot 2-under 68. After shooting an even-par 35 on the front nine, Whitsett shot 2-under on the back nine, making birdie back-to-back holes at the 15th and 16th.
A native of Houston, Texas, Whitsett is tied atop the leaderboard at the end of the first round, tied with Tommy Mou of Florida and Michael Johnson of Auburn.
Junior Bobby Wyatt carded a 1-over 71 during Monday's first round and sits at t7th. Also counting for Alabama in round one were Justin Thomas, who shot 4-over 74 and is tied for 18th, while Lee Knox put together a round of 5-over 75, leaving him tied for 24th after 18 holes.
Senior Scott Strohmeyer was the Tide's drop score in the first round with a 7-over 77.
