WOODSTOCK, Ga. - The Alabama men's golf team shot 14-over-par 294 in the opening round of the 2012 PING/Golfweek Preview at the par-70, 7,248-yard Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide is tied 13th after the first round, 13 shots off the lead of UNLV, who carded a 1-over 281. UCLA is one-shot back at 2-over 282 with New Mexico, Georgia Tech and San Diego State tied for third at 7-over 287.

Senior Scott Strohmeyer paced Alabama with an even-par 70 on Sunday and is tied for seventh. The native of Auburn, Ala., was steady throughout his round with a birdie and bogey on the front and back nine to go along with 14 pars.

Sophomore Justin Thomas was next for the Crimson Tide at 3-over 73. He opened with six pars before a bogey on the seventh hole and a triple bogey on the eighth. Thomas shot 1-under on the back nine with birdies on the 11th, 16th and 18th and bogeys 15th and 17th holes. He is tied for 35th after 18 holes of play.

Sophomores Bobby Wyatt and Cory Whisett were the Tide's third and fourth scores on Sunday. Wyatt shot 75 and is tied for 58th while Whitsett posted a 76 and is tied for 66th. Senior Lee Knox was Alabama's drop score in round one with a 77.

The 2012 PING/Golfweek Preview continues with the second round scheduled for Monday morning and the final round on Tuesday. The Tide will tee off at 8:20 a.m. and play with Chattanooga and Texas A&M.
