Alabama extended its team lead to 21 shots and true freshman Robby Shelton
took the individual lead with a 66 on Saturday during the second round of the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational at the par-70, 7,125-yard Olympia Fields Country Club just outside of Chicago.
The Crimson Tide shot 3-under 277 in round two and is 2-under 558 after 36 holes. Texas is in second place at 19-over 579 with Arkansas third at 21-over 581. Stanford and Oklahoma State are tied for fifth at 22-over 582.
Shelton, from Wilmer, Ala., followed up an opening-round 71 with a 4-under 66 on Saturday to take a three-shot lead at 3-under 137. He made the turn at even par but reeled off birdies on the 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th holes to take the 36-hole lead.
The Crimson Tide has four players in the top five entering Sunday's final round. Trey Mullinax, the first-round leader, shot 73 in round two and tied for second with teammate Bobby Wyatt at even par. Wyatt shot 71 on Saturday.
Cory Whitsett is in fifth at 1-over 141. The senior from Houston, Texas, shot 3-under 67 in Saturday's second round. True freshman Gavin Moynihan shot 74 in the second round, and his score did not count toward the team total.
Alabama will begin teeing off at 8:50 a.m. on Sunday at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Crimson Tide will be playing with Texas and Arkansas.
