ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The University of Alabama men's golf team opened the 2012-13 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club on Friday with an opening round 4-under-par 284.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide are in second place, six shots behind round-one leader Georgia, who fired a 10-under-par 278. LSU rounded out the top three with a 2-under-par 286 on the opening 18 holes. Wake Forest is in fourth after shooting even par while Auburn carded a 1-over 289 for fifth place.

Alabama was paced by junior Bobby Wyatt who carded a 5-under-par 67, putting him second individually after 18 holes. Wyatt, a native of Mobile, Ala., recorded seven birdies in route to his 16th career round in the 60s. The lone blemish was a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 17th hole.

The Alabama duo of junior Cory Whitsett and sophomore Justin Thomas finished the day at even-par 72 in a tie for 22nd position. Sophomore Tom Lovelady shot 1-over-par 73, putting him in a tie for 33rd after the first round.

Senior Scott Strohmeyer was the Crimson Tide's drop score from Friday, with a 5-over-par, 77. Junior Trey Mullinax played as an individual and shot even-par 72.

Second round action from Rocky Face, Ga., starts tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. (CDT) with the Crimson Tide teeing it up with Georgia and LSU.
