SEA ISLAND, Ga. - University of Alabama men's golf team is in 12th place following the first round of the 2010 SEC Men's Golf Championship at the par-70, 6,991-yards Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club on Friday.
Arkansas holds the team lead after the opening 18 holes with a 2-under-par total of 278. The Razorbacks have a two stroke lead on Auburn and Florida, who both carded even-par rounds of 280. South Carolina and Mississippi State are tied for fourth at 2-over-par 282.
Georgia's Bryden Mcpherson and Arkansas' Dalton Owens holds the individual lead at 3-under-par 67 with Vanderbilt's Trey DelGreco one shot back with a 68.
Crimson Tide sophomore Hunter Hamrick posted a solid 1-under-par 69 and is one of 10 golfers tied for fourth place. Hamrick, a native of Montgomery, Ala., opened with seven consecutive pars before posting a birdie on the par-4, 368-yard eighth hole.
He then birdied the 13th to move to 2-under par before a double bogey on the 17th moved him back to even. Hamrick sank his third birdie of the day with a three on the par-4 18th hole to get back to red numbers.
Redshirt freshman Lee Knox followed Hamrick with UA's second-best round of the day, a 3-over-par 73. Knox posted two birdies - on the second and 15th holes - and five bogeys and is tied for 36th heading into Saturday's second round.
Tuscaloosa native Hunter Slatton is tied for 52nd after shooting 7-over-par 77. Scott Strohmeyer was the Tide's final counting score on Friday with a 78. Spencer Cole shot 80 and is tied for 56th.
Alabama's second round on Saturday is schedule to tee off at 7:50 a.m. (CDT) from the 10th tee. The Crimson Tide will be joined by Mississippi and Kentucky. Follow all of the day's action at www.golfstat.com.
