TAMPA, Fla. - The second-ranked Alabama men's golf shot 2-over par 578 on Saturday and are in fourth place after the first day of the Gary Koch Invitational at the par-72, 7,389-yard Old Memorial Golf Club.

The Crimson Tide opened with a 4-over-par round of 292 on the first 18 holes of the day. It was the first time in the last six rounds UA had not shot under par. The Tide rebounded with a 2-under 286 in the second round, but are 19 shots off the lead of North Florida, who went 17-under in round two. Georgia Tech is in second place, five shots in front of Alabama, with Virginia one-shot better than UA in third.

Senior Hunter Hamrick paced the Alabama squad with a 36-hole total of 4-under-par 140 and is tied for third place. He is two shots off the lead of North Florida's Joey Petronio, who shot 72 and 66 Saturday. Hamrick, a senior from Montgomery, Ala., opened with a 1-over 73 but led all Tide players with a second-round 67.

Freshman Justin Thomas is tied for ninth, two shots back of Hamrick at 2-under 142. He opened with a 2-under-par 70 in round one before posting an even-par round during the day's second 18 holes. Sophomore Bobby Wyatt is tied for 25th after Saturday's action, shooting 73 and 74 for a 3-over-par 147.

Cory Whitsett's opening round 77 did not count toward the Tide's first-round score, but the sophomore bounced back with a 1-over 73 in the second round. He is tied for 42nd at 6-over-par 150. Junior Scott Strohmeyer counted a 76 in round one and then shot 77 in round two and is tied for 57th at 9-over 153.

Alabama is slated to tee off at 7:35 a.m. (CDT) on Sunday for the third and final round of the Gary Koch Invitational. Alabama will be playing with host Auburn, who is fifth at 36 holes, and Florida State.
