Football has returned to Tuscaloosa as the Crimson Tide reported to training camp on Friday. 2013 marks the 119th season of Alabama football. The Tide return as the No. 1 ranked team in the country, according to the USA Today preseason coaches poll.
The student-athletes reported to its new facility on Thursday for physicals and administrative meetings. Friday marked the first of 28 practices for Alabama as it prepares for the season opener against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Aug. 31 in a nationally televised game on ESPN at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Tide opened camp with a 9:30 a.m. practice and then the freshmen hit the practice fields for the first time in an evening session at 7:30 p.m. As a full unit, Alabama will have four two-a-day practices and two scrimmages over the course of the training camp.
The two-time defending national champion Crimson Tide return seven starters on the defensive side of the football and six on offense, including five that were named to the Sporting News All-America Team yesterday.
