Shreveport, La. – The Alabama football team held its second practice Wednesday afternoon at Independence Stadium as the Crimson Tide continued to prepare for Sunday’s bowl game against Colorado. The team worked out for two hours in full pads, which is normally a game-week Tuesday practice, in chilly conditions as a light rain fell.

Following practice, the team attended a welcome party at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Derek Dooley, an assistant for head coach Nick Saban at LSU and the Miami Dolphins, was on hand for Wednesday’s workout. Dooley is now the head coach at Louisiana Tech.

Alabama will return to practice Thursday at Independence Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Several players and coaches are scheduled to attend the FCA Breakfast early Thursday morning prior to practice and team meetings.

Alabama and Colorado will meet Sunday, December 30th at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.

Coach Saban’s Comments Following Wednesday’s Practice:

(Opening comments)
“First of all, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday season and take this opportunity to thank our fans and supporters, and certainly thank all the people who supported the team by coming over to the game. We sold out all of our tickets.  We certainly appreciate that and I know our players appreciate that and they’ll appreciate that support in the game.”

(On the bowl practices)
“We had a relatively good transition in getting here yesterday afternoon.  We had a nice, light workout last night, which I was pleased with the player maturity.  We had tough conditions out there today with the rain and the cold and the wind.  The players did a pretty good job of staying focused and doing what they needed to do to try and improve and get better and get back into things.  I feel pretty good about where we are at and what we are trying to do.  Anytime you take a few days off you certainly have to get back into it and the players are tying to do the right things to do that.”

(On injuries)
“I think he is OK.  We gave him the last day of practice off on Saturday and then he had two more days off and I think that helped him a lot.  Justin (Woodall) is able to practice. He injured his shoulder a little bit, but he was able to practice today with no contact and we’re hopeful he’ll be ready for the game as well.”

Junior Quarterback John Parker Wilson

(Opening comments)
“I think we have had some of the best practices we have had all year, this week and last week leading up to it.  I think everyone is enthusiastic and ready to play.  It’s good to see guys are ready to practice every day and I think we will be ready to play.”

(On ending season on positive note)
“Well the bowl is the last game of the year so you talk it about it all spring and all summer.  It’s good to come out with a win and it puts a good taste in everyone’s mouth.  So, a win is important.”

Senior defensive end Wallace Gilberry

(On playing in the Independence Bowl two years in a row)
“It’s not hard at all.  We are here to represent the SEC, not only our University, but we have the whole SEC on our backs.  We definitely want to come out on Sunday and give it our all and come out with a victory.

(On ending season on positive note)
“Without a doubt, we kind of took a fall toward the end of the season.  We hope to take this one-game season and put things on track for next year, that would definitely be something positive.”
