As the season begins to wind down for the Crimson Tide football team, the awards are beginning to roll in as senior linebacker DeMeco Ryans has been named to the AFCA Coaches' All-America Team.
Ryans currently leads the team in tackles with 69. He ranks second on the team in tackles for a loss with 9.5 (-46). He's also recorded 3.5 sacks (-31), two pass breakups, four quarterback pressures, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and an interception.
The AFCA's Division I-A All-America Selection Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's nine I-A districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts, that information, along with ballots submitted by I-A head coaches, are used to select the AFCA I-A Coaches' All-America Team.
