LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers Coach Sal Sunseri was named one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which is presented by The Rotary Club of Little Rock. The Broyles Award, established in 1996, is given annually to the nation's top assistant coach.

Sunseri has been instrumental in the success of the Crimson Tide's defensive unit that ranks first in the nation in every statistical category including total defense (191.25 ypg), rushing defense (74.92 ypg), pass efficiency defense (83.97 rating), scoring defense (8.83 ppg) and pass defense (116.33 ypg). Under his direction, the outside linebackers have been one of the most dominant groups on the field, led by senior Courtney Upshaw, who has recorded a team-high 17.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks this season.

The 2011 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11:30 a.m. at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock, Ark.
