Coach Mike Shula Quotes

Opening Statement

“I spent a little more time talking to the team about how tough this one is to swallow and how tough it is playing with the turnovers. I spent a little more time talking to the underclassmen about our seniors. They came in at a time when a lot of people didn’t want to be at Alabama. Some of them had a choice to go somewhere else, but they came here because they love their university. They knew there was going to be some tough times. I wanted to make sure the underclassmen appreciated them and what they’ve done for this football team. I talked to our team about how we’ve got to get things picked up. We are going to evaluate everything with what we are doing, offense, defense, recruiting, and all that kind of stuff. This was not the script we had for this season. This wasn’t the script we had for our seniors. We’ve got to get through this together. We’ve got to make sure we do everything we can possibly do coaching the players. Who knows what our season could have been like if we had done some things different in the Arkansas game, if we had done a couple things different with the lead against Florida and against Tennessee in the fourth quarter. There is a lot of accountability. It starts with the head coach, then the assistants, then the players. We played a lot of new starters this year, young starters who aren’t quite there yet. We want to get this team where we are playing with a lot of red shirt seniors and red shirt juniors. I just wanted them to know that it is going to be tough but we are going to get through this together.”
