Tiffin Named Groza Award Star of Stars
Nov. 17, 2008
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior kicker Leigh Tiffin was one of three players nationally to earn the Lou Groza Award “Star of Stars” recognition this weekend. He joins Miami kicker Matt Bosher and UTEP kicker Jose Martinez as this week’s honorees. Tiffin converted all six kicks in the Tide’s 32-7 win over Mississippi State, including three field goals and three extra points. Tiffin made field goals of 35, 34 and 36 yards in leading the Tide to its NCAA-leading 12th straight win. “Leigh Tiffin has done a good job for us all year,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said following Saturday’s game. “Leigh did a good job of kicking off, and that drive-start was very important in field position. I think special teams were a real key in the game.” A semi-finalist for the 2008 Lou Groza Award, Tiffin has made all 39 extra point attempts this season and converted 16-of-23 field goals. He leads the Crimson Tide with 87 points this season. Tiffin is second in the SEC and 23rd nationally with 1.45 field goals made per game. He is also fifth in the league and 44th nationally with 7.91 points per game.
