Darby, Jones and Dukes Named Captains for Mississippi State Game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-University of Alabama football head coach Mike Shula announced on Thursday that Kenneth Darby, Terrence Jones and Jeffrey Dukes will be the three captains for Saturday's game against Mississippi State.

For Darby and Dukes it will be the third time this season they have been a captain. Darby was also an offensive captain in the season opener against Hawai'i and three weeks ago against Ole Miss. Dukes was a special teams captain in the Ole Miss game and a defensive captain earlier this season against Vanderbilt. Jones will be a defensive captain for the first time this year. He captained the special teams against the Commodores in the second week of the season.

Darby, a senior running back from Huntsville, leads the team in rushing. He has gained 682 yards on 158 carries. After a slow start to the season, he has come on strong and increased his yards per carry to 4.3 yards. He is averaging 75.8 rushing yards per game, fifth in the SEC. He had 100-yard games against Duke and Ole Miss this year giving him 12 for his career. In his two games against Mississippi State he has run for 322 yards with one touchdown. He had 36 carries for 200 yards and one touchdown in 2004 and 21 carries for 122 yards last year.  

Jones, a senior linebacker from Fosters, will captain the defense. He is fifth on the team with 30 tackles. He has played in eight games with seven starts. He has 1.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, one pass breakup and one forced fumble. He has four career tackles against Mississippi State. As a freshman in 2003, he posted three tackles against the Bulldogs and one the following year in 2004. 

Dukes, a senior safety from Oxford, Miss., will lead the special teams against Mississippi State. He is tied for the team lead with 56 total tackles. He has 31 solo stops with 1.5 tackles for a loss. He also has two interceptions and two pass breakups. He has recorded five or more tackles in eight of his nine games with seven or more five times.   

Saturday's game at Bryant-Denny Stadium will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. The game will be carried by five Alabama stations, including WTTO in Birmingham, WTVY in Dothan, WZDX in Huntsville, WJTC in Mobile and WSFA in Montgomery. The telecast will be also be available as part of ESPN's GamePlan Package. GamePlan is a pay-per-view service offered via DirecTV, Dish Network and participating cable systems.
