TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Seven Alabama players earned player of the week honors following the Crimson Tide's victory over Ole Miss, head coach Nick Saban announced Monday after the staff had a chance to grade film from Saturday's game.
Senior quarterback John Parker Wilson and left guard Mike Johnson were recognized on offense. Wilson completed 16-of-25 passes for a season-high 219 yards with a pair of touchdown passes. Wilson now ranks third in the SEC in terms of pass efficiency. Johnson did not allow a sack or a pressure in the win over the Rebels. Johnson and the left side of the line paved the way for Mark Ingram's 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
On defense, senior safety Rashad Johnson, junior cornerback Javier Arenas and linebacker Brandon Fanney were named players of the week by the coaching staff. Johnson had another outstanding performance, recording a game-high nine tackles with an interception, a forced fumble and a tackle for loss. He is now second on the team with 39 total tackles. Arenas finished with five solo tackles and led the team with two pass break-ups. Fanney was credited with four stops, a tackle for loss and a pass break-up.
Special teams honors went to freshman Robby Green and junior Chris Rogers. Green had a tackle on punt coverage and also downed a punt inside the 10-yard line. Rogers is a member of the punt return, kickoff coverage and kickoff return teams. He had a knockdown on punt return and a tackle on kickoff coverage.
