TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-University of Alabama football head coach Mike Shula announced the three captains on Thursday for the upcoming SEC contest against the University of Tennessee.
Following practice Shula named Le'Ron McClain, Juwan Simpson and Rashad Johnson as captains for the annual "Third Saturday in October" showdown with the Vols. It will be the second time this season each player was named captain. McClain and Johnson were each selected for the Arkansas game while Simpson was chosen for the second straight week.
McClain, a senior fullback from Northport, is the team's third leading receiver and will be the offensive captain. He has 13 catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns. He caught the game-winning two-yard touchdown pass in overtime against Ole Miss last weekend. The play was one of four finalists for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Week. He also has carried the ball six times for 27 yards.
Simpson, a senior linebacker from Decatur, will captain the defense. He has forced a fumble in each of the last two games. He is second on the team with 41 tackles but has a team best average of 6.8 tackles per game. He also has three tackles for a loss and an interception.
Johnson, a sophomore safety from Sulligent, will lead the special teams against Tennessee. He joined Javier Arenas as the second kick returner last weekend. He now has two kick returns for 40 yards on the season. He also is seventh on the team with 21 tackles. He has tallied 17 solo tackles with one tackle for a loss and two forced fumbles.
Saturday's game can be seen on CBS at 2:30 p.m. CT. Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Tracy Wolfson will be calling the game from Neyland Stadium. It will be the fourth time this season the Crimson Tide has been on CBS. They were on seven times last year.
