Jones, Hightower Named to Midseason Freshman All-American Team

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Dont’a Hightower have been named to the 2008 Midseason Freshman All-American team.

Jones has started all six games and is the Tide’s leading receiver with 19 catches for 278 yards and a freshman school-record four touchdowns. He averages 14.6 yards per catch and 46.3 yards per game to lead the Tide’s receiving corps. 

“This playmaking receiver has been instrumental in Alabama's return to prominence,” wrote in its Freshman All-American report.

The Foley, Ala., native has caught at least one pass in all six games and had a season-best five catches against Western Kentucky (Sept. 13) and No. 3 Georgia (Sept. 27).  His best game of the season came against the Bulldogs, when he hauled in five passes for 94 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown catch from John Parker Wilson that gave Alabama a 31-0 halftime lead.

Hightower has played in six games, including five starts for the Crimson Tide this season. He is UA’s fifth-leading tackler with 24 stops (10 solos) and has added two fumbles recoveries, one forced fumble and one quarterback pressure.

“Hightower has started since day one on a Top-10 rated defense,” added.

The Lewisburg, Tenn., native recorded a season-high 10 tackles in the Tide’s 20-6 win over Tulane on Sept. 6.  He also added five stops against Arkansas (Sept. 20) and Kentucky (Oct. 4).
