TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The University of Alabama football coaching staff has selected five players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s game with Florida State on Saturday. Two players from both the special teams and defensive units and one player on the offensive team were chosen.
Justin Britt, a senior offensive lineman from Cullman, got the nod as the lone offensive player of the week. Britt started at left guard for the 17th straight time against the Seminoles and helped the Tide accumulate 329 yards of total offense on Saturday.
Two players were selected on the defensive side of the ball, including junior safety Rashad Johnson (Sulligent) and junior linebacker Ezekial Knight (Wedowee). Knight tied for the team lead in tackles in the FSU game with nine, including one sack and two tackles for loss. Johnson tallied six tackles in the loss to the Seminoles.
On special teams, the coaching staff chose freshman Kareem Jackson (Fork Union, Va.) and senior Demarcus Waldrop (Pinson) for their performances on the Tide specialty units. Jackson, who also played extensively in the Alabama secondary in the game, was credited with eight tackles, including one for loss.
The Tide returns to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 6, where UA welcomes Houston for the school’s 87th Homecoming contest. Kickoff is set for 2:07 p.m. (CDT), with the game being made available on a pay-per-view basis.
