PREGAME NOTES:

Alabama dressed 70 players for its Southeastern Conference road game at Arkansas ... The Alabama game captains were senior guard Danny Martz (Gaithersburg, Md.), junior linebacker DeMeco Ryans (Bessemer) and sophomore linebacker Terrence Jones (Northport) ... Alabama won the toss and deferred to the second half ... Alabama had one first-time starter against Arkansas, giving the Crimson Tide nine first-time starters this season ... Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marc Guillon (Chico, Calif.) made his first start at quarterback, sub bing for the injured Brodie Croyle (season-ending ACL surgery) ... THE ARKANSAS SERIES:

Alabama now leads the all-time series with Arkansas, 8-7 (.533) in a series that dates back to the Jan. 1, 1962 Sugar Bowl ... The Crimson Tide actually has nine wins over Arkansas, but the 1993 victory (43-3) at Tuscaloosa was later forfeited by NCAA sanctions ... Alabama holds a 4-3 (.571) series lead here in the state of Arkansas ... The Razorbacks hold a 3-2 series lead here in Fayetteville ... Arkansas has won back-to-back games against Alabama for just the second time in series history ... The Razorbacks also won two straight games in 1997 (17-16) and 1998 (42-6) ...

MARC GUILLON NOTEBOOK:

The redshirt sophomore made his first career start today at Arkansas ... Guillon is the 13th different starting quarterback used by Alabama since the 1991 season ... UA starters are 9-4 (.692) in their debut with the Crimson Tide ... Guillon completed only six of 18 passes for 57 yards and one TD in the loss ...

RAY HUDSON NOTEBOOK:

Senior tailback Ray Hudson (Bonifay, Fla.) had 20 carries for 170 yards and one touchdown in the loss to Arkansas ... The 20 rushing attempts and 170 yards are both career highs for the senior ... Hudson had nine carries for 109 yards and one TD in the first half thanks to a 63-yard touchdown run with 9:33 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7 ... The 63-yard run was the longest of his Alabama career and the longest play from scrimmage by Alabama this season ... He had 11 carries for 61 yards in the second half ... Hudson was also UA's leading receiver with two catches for 13 yards ...

OFFENSIVE NOTEBOOK:

Alabama suffered its first loss of the 2004 season and saw its three-game season-opening winning streak come to an end here this afternoon ... Alabama was shutout in the second half for the first time this season ... In fact, Alabama was shutout in three of the four quarters today against Arkansas ... Bama scored all 10 points in the second quarter of today's game ... Entering the Arkansas game, Alabama has scored in 11 of its first 12 quarter this season, with the first quarter against Ole Miss being the only quarter in which the Tide did not score in the first three games ... Alabama threw its first interception of the 2004 season (78 pass attempts) when Guillon was picked off by Michael Coe at the Arkansas 47-yard line ... The turnover came one play after the Crimson Tide had picked off an Arkansas pass ... The offense committed two turnovers in the first half, with a fumble by sophomore tailback Kenneth Darby (Huntsville) coming at the Arkansas 23-yard line ...

DEFENSIVE NOTEBOOK:

Arkansas scored on its opening possession against Alabama for the second year in a row ... Senior QB Matt Jones capped the  nine-play, 79-yard opening drive with the six-yard run to give the Razorbacks at 7-0 lead with 10:13 left in the first quarter ... Jones' TD run also marked the first time (184 minutes, 47 seconds) this season that Alabama has trailed in a game ... Junior free safety Roman Harper (Prattville) recorded his second interception of the season and third of his career when he picked off a Matt Jones pass at the Alabama 48-yard line with seven minutes left in the first quarter ... Harper's interception is the ninth turnover of the year by the Alabama defense ... The defense has cashed six of those turnovers into points (38 points) ... Sophomore defensive tackle Chris Harris (Tuscaloosa) recorded his first career sack in the first half ... Freshman cornerback Simeon Castille (Birmingham) did not play in today's game against Arkansas ...

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTEBOOK:

Senior kicker Brian Bostick (Cullman) made both kicks today against Arkansas and has made all 22 kicks (18 PAT, 4 FG) this season ... Senior punter Bo Freelend (Eutaw) punted six times for a 41.7 yard average today ... Redshirt freshman kicker Jamie Christensen (Norcross, Ga.) did not have a touchback on any of this three kicks today ...
