TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The top-ranked Alabama football team wrapped up preparations for Colorado State on Thursday with a 90-minute workout inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility in shells.
The Crimson Tide welcomes former offensive coordinator Jim McElwain back to Tuscaloosa, now in his second season as the head coach for the Rams, for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday on ESPN2. Colorado State is 1-2 on the season after a victory over Cal Poly last week in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Crimson Tide will hold a brief walk-through on Friday. The 2013 home opener is the latest for Alabama since the 1988 team opened the season on Sept. 24, with a 44-10 win over Vanderbilt.
Alabama's senior signal-caller AJ McCarron was named the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week after knocking off No. 6 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, last Saturday. He set career-highs with 334 yards passing and four touchdowns while improving his career record as a starter to 27-2.
