TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team finalized preparation today for Saturday night's Southeastern Conference opener versus the Kentucky Wildcats.

"We've had three good days of practice, probably three of our best days now," Alabama head coach Mike Shula said.  "I'm not sure what that means yet as far as results and how we play.  We talk to our players about good preparation each week, and all that does is give you a chance.  Now we have to go take it out and play like we practice on Saturday."

Shula said his squad will have a short walk-through on Friday.  He also announced captains for the game: Dre Fulgham (offense), Derrick Pope (defense) and Thurman Ward (special teams).

The 2003 season marks the fourth time Alabama has opened its SEC schedule with Kentucky.  Alabama has won all three previous meetings in SEC openers in 1972 (35-0), 1973 (28-14) and 1989 (15-3).

The game is set to kick off at 6:47 p.m. and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
