TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --  The University of Alabama football team held its final tune-up for the 2002 season opener with a 90-minute workout in helmets and shorts Thursday afternoon.

Alabama will hold a light workout on Friday in Tuscaloosa before departing for Birmingham.  The Crimson Tide's Friday afternoon workout is closed to the media and general public.

"We had good work today," Alabama head coach Dennis Franchione said.  "We worked on a lot of situations again today.  It's almost like we had two Thursday practices this week, working on these situations Wednesday and again today.  We looked a third downs, fourth downs, red zone and two-point plays."

The Crimson Tide opted to practice in the rain Thursday afternoon and not use the Hank Crisp Indoor practice facility.

"We had a little bit of rain and we might have to play in it, so it was good to see that today."

Alabama's last trip to Legion Field was played in a driving rain storm as the Crimson Tide beat Southern Miss 28-15 to clinch its 92nd winning season.
