TUSCALOOSA, Ala.  -- Alabama senior tailback Shaud Williams is among 39 preseason candidates for the prestigious Doak Walker Award, awarded annually to the nation’s top college running back.

He joins four other players from the SEC on the preseason list.

Williams was the Tide’s leading rusher in 2002, netting 921 yards and five TDs in 13 games.  He also had 21 receptions for 228 yards and added another 346 yards on punt returns and 91 yards on kickoff returns for 1,586 all-purpose yards.  His 1,586 total for the season was the fifth-best mark in Alabama history.

He had 100-yard performances against Southern Miss (135), Arkansas (119), LSU (131) and Hawaii (160).
