It was the first day of class in more ways than one for The University of Alabama football team as it began its preparation for Utah State; today also marked the first day of classes at the university.

The team started the practice off slow amid cloudy skies and humid conditions, but improved as the day progressed.

"It was really kind of a sloppy practice today, but towards the end it picked up a little bit," said head coach Mike Shula.  "We need to continue to practice like we've been practicing and today wasn't good enough that way.  We need to keep trying to preach the tempo of the game and the speed of the game and what it's going to be like so it's not a surprise to all these guys."

"All that being said it was still a good introduction on Utah State.  We got some things done there and we'll have to pick it up tomorrow."

The Crimson Tide will continue preparation on Thursday and Friday before giving the team Saturday off from practice.
