DALLAS Antoine Caldwell, the University of Alabama’s second team All-Southeastern Conference offensive lineman, has been included on the 2007 Dave Rimington Award Fall Watch List released today. The Rimington Award is awarded annually the nation’s top center.
Caldwell, a native of Montgomery, was included on the Award’s Watch List released last May. That list was adjusted throughout the last few weeks, as college teams around the nation made adjustments to their respective offensive lines during fall camp.
The list includes seven of Caldwell’s counterparts from the SEC, including Corey Actis of Ole Miss, Royce Blackledge of Mississippi State, Jason Bosley from Auburn, Brett Helms of LSU, Jonathan Luigs from Arkansas, Josh McNeil of Tennessee and Florida’s Drew Miller.
Dan Mozes of West Virginia won the Rimington Award last season, with 2007 marking the eighth year of its existence. It is presented by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which was founded in 1993 to support research and treatment of cystic fibrosis.
The winner will be selected by determining the consensus All-America center pick from the four existing All-American teams, including the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Foundation, the Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America. The award ceremony will be honored in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 12, 2008.
The Crimson Tide opens its regular season on Sept. 1 with a home date against Western Carolina.
