The University of Alabama started classes today and while it gave the football team a bit of a reprieve, the Crimson Tide continued preparation for its season opener against Middle Tennessee State.

"I thought it was a pretty good practice for the first day of school, coming back out here that's a lot, especially for the new guys," said head coach Mike Shula.

Shula added that they were also able to get the scout teams arranged, adding five extra names to the roster including Patrick Burch, Trent Dean, Courtney Moore, Forress Rayford and Layne Rinks.

"We had five extra guys today.  We'll get a few more here in the next day or so.  These guys have got to go through their orientation period.  We can use the numbers, especially on the scout teams.  But I thought overall with the scout teams it was pretty good."

"It's disappointing for some guys too regarding the scout team; they want to be up there.  But we told them, obviously it's so important that role is for our football team and they have a chance to get better and there's also a lot of guys that started on the scout team but ended up playing, guys like Prothro, since I've been here."

The team will continue its workouts on Thursday with a 4:00 practice in preparation for Friday's mock game which will be closed.
