TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The University of Alabama football team worked for two hours in full pads Friday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility as preparations continue for the 2008 season opener against No. 9 Clemson at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Aug.30.
Alabama senior preseason All-SEC center Antoine Caldwell and sophomore running back Terry Grant talked about preparing for the season opener following Thursday's practice.
"We are just ready to go and tired of hitting our own teammates," Caldwell said. "We have fallen in the same patterns every day, going over the same blitzes and stuff like that. Today was a little more refreshing, starting new as we prepare for Clemson, so I think everyone is on pace and ready to go."
"We just basically went against the scout team and are looking forward to not going against our own," Grant said on Thursday. "We are getting tired of beating up on our own people, and I am pretty sure they are getting tired of beating up on us."
Caldwell said that playing a Top 10 team on national television adds a little more focus and detail on the practice field.
"It does add a little extra to it, you can just see that when you watch film on them," Caldwell added. "They are not just a regular team you start the season off with because they have great players on offense and defense but everyone around here is ready. We are enthused about it and excited. We have been working hard and today kind of started a new page as we started preparation for them, so everyone feels pretty good."
Alabama will practice again on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and take Sunday off before resuming normal game-week preparation on Monday, Aug. 25. The Crimson Tide will hold its weekly Media Day on Monday, Aug. 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the Naylor Stone Media Suite. Head Coach Nick Saban and selected players will be available to the media.
