Alabama Wraps Up Wednesday Workout

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? As fall classes opened at the University of Alabama on Wednesday, the Crimson Tide football team continued its preparations for the upcoming 2007 season on the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.

With the first day of classes, 22 walk-ons joined the UA roster and worked without pads Wednesday afternoon in their first practice of the season with the team.

The Tide opens its regular season on Saturday, Sept. 1, when it plays host to Western Carolina in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

“We are really focused on Western Carolina right now,” said sophomore offensive lineman Andre Smith. “The line has improved tremendously and we are just working hard and having fun right now.”

On Thursday, head coach Nick Saban and selected Tide football players can be heard on the first installment of the weekly “Hey Coach” radio program. The show, hosted by Tom Roberts, will include a taped interview with Saban, along with several UA players.

The legendary Kenny Stabler, the Tide’s color commentator on the game day radio broadcasts, will join the show, as will new sideline reporter and former All-American Barry Krauss. Also joining the program will be Tide volleyball coach Judy Green and soccer head coach Don Staley.

Next Thursday, Aug. 30, will be the first live edition of “Hey Coach” from Baumhower’s Wings Sports Grille in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama is slated to practice on Thursday at its regularly scheduled 3:30 p.m. time slot. All practices are closed to the public.
