CAMP CHATTER: Marquis Maze
Aug. 15, 2008 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - During preseason football camp, RollTide.com will take fans behind the scenes with various Crimson Tide players. Today, redshirt freshman wide receiver Marquis Maze shares his thoughts on training camp. On preseason camp: “Camp has been going real well. I have made some big plays. Everybody has made some big plays. We are trying to learn each day and do what the coaches ask and that is playing hard and playing fast and finish every play.” On his role at practice: “I just play my role basically and the things the coaches ask me to do. They ask me to make plays. Catch the ball, play fast and finish." On options at wide receiver: “We have a lot of competition. We have to work hard every day and do what you have to do each day.” On his position: “I’m on the outside. It helps with spacing. You get a lot of deep routes. It’s a real cool position.” On what last season was like: “The beginning was tough and then as the season went on things got better. I started soaking things in more and knew that I was not going to play. I did what I had to do on the scout team to make the team better. It really wasn’t tough because (I wasn’t playing). Coming out of high school I expected a lot. I really didn’t live up to my expectations, so I had to do whatever I could to make the team better on that side of the ball on the scout team.”
