TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The Alabama Crimson Tide football team got its first practice in full pads Tuesday morning and then came back for the afternoon practice in shorts and shoulder pads.

"We got a lot done today," offered Tide coach Dennis Franchione.  "the morning practice was pretty taxing.  We've come a long way and we've had good productivity."

The Tide will scrimmage at 11:30 a.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Wednesday and then have a walk-thru in the late afternoon.

"We'll sacrifice one practice on Wednesday," Franchione said, "I'm not sure we could have done that last year.  Our conditioning is pretty good and the weather, so far, has really cooperated.  We'll use the scrimmage to test certain players.  We know what the veterans can do, but we need to find out about some of the others.  I expect the early part of the scrimmage to be a little rough."

Franchione also announced that freshman cornerback Ben Rose (5-9, 180) from Rochester Hills, Minnesota will join the squad, replacing Marquez Dupree who left the team on Monday.
