TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Alabama Crimson Tide football team went through practices five and six Monday in preparation for the first day in pads Tuesday morning.

"We have had six good practices in shorts and pads," said Tide coach Dennis Franchione, "and if we have two more good practices on Tuesday, then we will practice just once on Wednesday."

That practice will be a scrimmage starting at 11:30 a.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

"I could not have done this last year," Franchione offered, "but we're far enough along to do it this year.  We're mentally and physically further along.  We have worked hard getting ready for the scrimmage."

Following Monday's practice, Franchione was not pleased with the number of penalties.  "There were just too many penalties," he said.  "I have asked the officials to call it tight and we just have to do a better job in that area."

Franchione also announced that redshirt fullback Marquez Dupree (6-0, 221, Philadelphia, MS) had left the team for personal reasons.
