TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The football team had its eighth practice of the season on Thursday at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility donning full pads for the third time in camp.

"The focus for us right now is playing with consistency," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "We need to get everybody out there on a daily basis having the kind of focus, mental energy and intensity that you need to improve, so you can play winning football at your position. You have to have lots of mental toughness to be able to persevere under the circumstances that we are in, but everyone else that we are playing against is in the same situation. It is hot everywhere. Everybody controls their own actions by what they do. That is what we need to continue to do as an entire team."

The Crimson Tide will have 21 more practice before its season opener on September 3, against Kent State. The game is slated to kick off at 11:21 a.m. CT at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Absent from today's practice was senior offensive lineman William Vlachos and junior linebacker Dont'a Hightower.

"Dont'a had a fracture in his hand," Saban explained. "They did a little surgical procedure today, and he will probably be ready to come back and practice tomorrow. Vlachos was sick today, and he will be back as well."

The Tide will hold two sessions on Friday before its first scrimmage of the fall season, which is slated for Saturday. All practices are closed to the public.
