TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama football team officially opened the 2007 season with a pair of practice sessions at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields. The upperclassmen opened the day before the freshmen gathered for an evening practice.

The Tide will practice as a full squad for the first time on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and will take part in the annual Media and Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in the only practice open to the public prior to the beginning of the regular season on Sept. 1.

Both practices lasted approximately an hour and 45 minutes. The afternoon session saw hot and humid weather, with the heat index hovering over the 100-degree mark for much of the day. In the evening, rain showers greeted the newcomers as they arrived for their first official practice as members of the Crimson Tide.

All practices other than the open session on Aug. 5 are closed to the public.
