TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - During preseason football camp, RollTide.com will take fans behind the scenes with various Crimson Tide players. Today, senior quarterback John Parker Wilson offers some comments on the Tide's first two days of practice.
On summer workouts: "We spent more time throwing, more time more time working out, more time doing everything and I think that's going to pay off for us. I think the whole team has risen above everything and that has brought our standards higher. "In the summer we just try and polish up on what we learned in the spring. The coaches cannot be out there, so there is not a whole lot you can do, besides take what we learned from the spring and get better at that. We put a lot in this spring, so we had a really good foundation of what we wanted to do. "We polish up on what we learned. We may watch a practice from a particular day or go back and read through your notebook, because it is new and you have to stay sharp on those things."
On Julio Jones: "Out there in the summer, he was a special guy and he can make plays. I think he has a really good drive about himself, but it's going to be different when we put the pads on, so we will. I think he'll fine. I think he will be a big player, he and Burton (Scott) both. "There is only so much you can do in 7-on-7. It's catch and tag, it's not catch and see if you can break a tackle and then run 50 yards into the end zone. That's going to be something that separates everybody."
On entering senior season: "It's just like any other season, I think. There maybe a little more experience, may know a little more about what's going on. I don't think I'm going to change my approach too much."
On Star Jackson: "He has a really good arm and I think he has a really good head on his shoulders.
On the new offense being more quarterback friendly: "Yeah, I think so. I think we have a lot more short, quick stuff in; things that get the ball out of your hands quicker. I guess you don't have to sit back there and take hit or think too much about the defense. It's a lot of quick stuff."
