TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -The University of Alabama football team held its first practice of the 2008 fall camp on Friday, with a split squad workout at the Thomas-Drew Practice facility.
Both sessions lasted nearly two hours, with most of the veterans working from 3 until 5 p.m. in the Tuscaloosa heat as the temperature rose near 100 degrees Friday afternoon. The second practice, consisting of mainly freshman, began at 7:30 p.m. and wrapped up around 9:30 p.m.
"I think today went really well," senior quarterback John Parker Wilson said. "I think we have a very good attitude towards practice and getting better. We think we can do some things this year and we have to go out and work towards our goals in getting there."
"Practice was great today," junior preseason All-American tackle Andre Smith said. "We really worked on our techniques and fundamentals. "I missed being on the field, working on my pass sits, like every single play, or blocking against the defense. I was really looking forward to today."
The Crimson Tide will hold its first full squad practice on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Alabama will also hold its annual "Fan Day" on Sunday, Aug. 3 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide will conduct its only open practice of the preseason beginning at 2:30 p.m. and "Fan Day" will take place from 4:45 until 5:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The gates will open for the event at 1:30 p.m.
