John Parker Wilson Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - John Parker Wilson Named to Maxwell Award Watch List TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama senior quarterback John Parker Wilson has been named to the preseason watch list for the 72nd Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced today. The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell. Wilson was one of 76 college football players named to the preseason watch list on Wednesday. Wilson has been UA's starter at quarterback in each of the last two seasons. He has thrown for 5,651 yards in his career with 37 total touchdown passes. Wilson is closing in on Brodie Croyle's school records for career passing yardage (6,382) and career TD passes (41). Wilson also owns Alabama single-season records for total offense, total plays, pass attempts, completions and touchdowns. Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced in early November and three finalists for each award will be announced November 25th. The winners of the 2008 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah's Entertainment Atlantic City on March 6, 2009. The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's Selection Committee. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for these awards.
