TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--Publix Supermarkets has agreed to become the corporate sponsor of Publix Football 101, the highly-acclaimed gridiron class for women, Butch Henry, General Manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, announced Wednesday.
Publix Football 101, featuring Coach Dennis Franchione and the University of Alabama football staff, will be Sunday, July 28 at the Bryant Conference Center.
"We are delighted Publix is celebrating its arrival into Alabama by agreeing to sponsor this unique event," Henry said. "We had over 250 participants last year and early registration this year has already topped 400.
"By moving to the Bryant Conference Center, we can accommodate a much larger class. We urge interested women to complete their enrollment as soon as possible," Henry said.
The class covers all aspects of football, rules, equipment and other activities and is divided among beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The Crimson Tide staff provides instruction and interacts with the participants.
The initial session sold out in three days last year, so the class has been expanded with an enrollment limit of 1,000. Cost is $89 including a unique course syllabus, shirt, meal and other materials. A portion of the fee is donated to the Tuscaloosa County Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
There will be an optional chapel service with testimony from a UA coach at 11:30 a.m., followed by registration at 12:30 p.m. Coach Fran opens the instruction at 1:30 p.m. Following dinner at 6:30 p.m., there will be an autograph and photo opportunity for participants.
