TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- University of Alabama football players Wesley Britt and DeMeco Ryans have been selected to watch lists for separate awards selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), it was announced today.
Britt, a 6-8, 315-pound senior offensive tackle from Cullman, Ala., was one of 57 players selected to the preseason Outland Trophy watch list signifying college football's top lineman. The award is presented annually to the top interior lineman in college football, on either side of the ball.
Ryans, a 6-2, 230-pound junior linebacker from Bessemer, Ala., was picked to the 2004 Bronko Nagurski watch list, a compilation of the best defensive players in college football, regardless of position. Ryans, an Academic All-SEC and CoSIDA District Academic selection, set the Alabama single-season record with 25 tackles against Arkansas. He had a team-leading 126 tackles last season.
The Nagurski Trophy will be presented on Dec. 6, while the Outland Trophy will be award on Dec. 9. Both awards will be made by the FWAA.
