Tyler Watts

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team held its' first scrimmage of the spring Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.  The first, second and third team offense went against the first, second and third team defense.

All three quarterbacks were similar in their play.  Tyler Watts led the first team offense throwing for 93 yards on 7 for 17 passing.  Brodie Croyle quarterbacked the second team offense, going 10 for 17 for 95 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, and Spencer Pennington led the third team offense, throwing for 94 yards on 5 for 18 passing.

"I was pleased overall," said head coach Dennis Franchione.  "We missed some throws, but we also made some.  All in all, the three did some bright things, especially in coverage.  I felt good about all three quarterbacks."

Santonio Beard and Ahmaad Galloway took turns with the first team offense.  Beard ran five times for 50 yards, and Galloway ran for 42 yards on eight carries.  Theo Sanders, being utilized as a fullback, had two rushes for 18 yards and a touchdown.  Dre Fulgham led the receivers with four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.  Triandos Luke and Antonio Carter both caught two passes, Luke for 30 yards, and Carter for 16 yards.

Said Franchione, "There were a lot of upsides, a lot of good things.  We had a couple of turnovers.  I felt our communication was good.  We were not as physical as it could have been, but it was as good as it could be for the first scrimmage.  It was pretty taxing heat-wise, but I felt we held up pretty well."

The Tide will have a couple days off before their next practice on Tuesday.
