TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rising sophomore Nic Luke has been granted a release from his football scholarship, and will not be among the Crimson Tide football squad when players report on August 9, 2004, Alabama head coach Mike Shula said today.
"Nic thought it would be best for him, personally, to transfer," Shula said. "We granted Nic his release and we wish him the best of luck."
The release will allow Luke to transfer and play football in accordance with NCAA policy. Luke garnered playing time on special teams in the Tide's last six games, logging 33 snaps during the 2003 season. He did not see action in 2002. Luke caught two passes for a total of 10 yards in the Tide's A-Day game on March 20.
Luke's brother, Triandos, completed his eligibility with the Crimson Tide in 2003 and was the Tide's leading receiver. He was drafted by the National Football League's Denver Broncos in April.
