MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- A former University of Alabama football player died in a head-on collision in south Mobile County. Paul Adam "Kip" Williams, 22, of Chatom, a former honor student and star football player at Washington County High, died early Wednesday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed into a tractor-trailer about 2:50 a.m., state troopers said.

An investigation into the crash has not been completed. Troopers said Williams was alone in the SUV when it collided with a tractor-trailer rig driven by Johnny Bill Storer of Mobile. Storer, 33, was not injured.

Williams graduated from Alabama in December and began his first job Monday in Mobile, his father, Paul Williams, said.

At Washington County High, he was selected for the all-county and all-area high school football all-star teams before he graduated in 1999. He was captain of the football team in his senior year. He played three years for the Crimson Tide.
