TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team went through its final practice of the spring on Thursday afternoon in shells at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility for approximately two hours as the Crimson Tide finished its preparations for the Golden Flake A-Day Game.
"I have been really pleased with the progress we have been able to make as a team this spring," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "We are certainly looking forward to Saturday. It should be a very competitive game that will present a great opportunity for our players to get on the field in a game-type situation."
The Tide's annual Golden Flake A-Day Game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. CDT at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be broadcast nationally by ESPNU with Dave Neal, Andre Ware and Tom Luginbill calling the action. It will also be broadcast via the internet on ESPN3.com.
"One of the things that has contributed to our success is the crowd we get for this game," Saban added. "It creates a great atmosphere for our team, and they love it. This turns out to be a fantastic day at our university."
One of the great traditions at the University of Alabama is the recognition of captains in a ceremony at Denny Chimes prior the start of the Golden Flake A-Day Game. At approximately 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Greg McElroy, Mark Barron and Dont'a Hightower will be honored.
"I feel like it will be a special experience for me," Barron said. "Any time you are able to be a part of something that is going to go down in history, it is special. I feel like it will be a great moment for me and my teammates."
