TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team practiced for two hours on Friday afternoon in shells at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility as spring preparations continue.
The Crimson Tide will hold their second scrimmage of 2010 spring practice on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama's Friday afternoon practice was its 11th of 15 this spring.
UA's spring drills are building toward the 2010 A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN for the second straight season. Rece Davis, Craig James, Mark May and Wendi Nix will call the action for ESPN.
The Tide returns a strong nucleus on the offensive side of the football and that experience has shown throughout spring practice.
"I feel really good about the way we're going on offense," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "Our quarterbacks are playing well. We've got good skill players all the way around and they've done a really good job."
On the defensive side of the football the Tide only returns two starters, which has given the offense a little bit of a head start this spring. But the Alabama defense is making strides everyday as last year's reserves expand their knowledge of the defense and battle for starting jobs.
"I think we've made some improvement this week, all the way around," Saban said. "We've made improvement on offense, correcting some of the things we needed to correct. Defensively, I feel like we're starting to come together a little bit. We've got some guys back in the spot that they probably ought to be in. We've been toying around with the linebackers. Some of those things are starting to come together."
Alabama will take Sunday and Monday off before returning to the practice field on Tuesday, April 13. The Tide will practice on Tuesday and Thursday of next week leading up to the A-Day Game.
