TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama football team held its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday afternoon inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The scrimmage lasted roughly 125 plays and was just over two hours under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s. The Crimson Tide will have Sunday off before returning to practice on Monday.

"I was really pleased with the effort and intensity the players had," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "I really like the attitude of this team in terms of how they go about what they try to do, how they work, the effort that they give and the mental and physical toughness that we play with. A lot of guys are trying to be conscientious to do a good job and I think that it shows in the way we play and the way we compete. The togetherness on the team is to me a lot better."

Senior quarterback Blake Sims led the offense with 227 yards while completing 70 percent of his passes (16 of 23) and tossing two touchdowns. Kenyan Drake rushed for 60 yards with a touchdown, while Tyren Jones had 49 yards and Derrick Henry and Altee Tenpenny had 40 each. T.J. Yeldon carried four times for 20 yards.

Junior Amari Cooper rolled up 190 receiving yards and two scores, including a 75-yard strike from Sims. Senior Christion Jones hauled in three passes for 23 yards and freshman Cam Sims caught two balls for 48 yards.

Senior Trey Depriest led the defense with eight tackles while Denzel Devall and Reggie Ragland both had five stops. Devall added two tackles for loss and a sack while Ragland had two sacks and a pass breakup. Landon Collins added four tackles, a tackle for loss and a blocked field goal.

Alabama's 2014 A-Day Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. (CDT) inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public and will be televised live on ESPN2.
