TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head football coach Mike Price had a lot to be happy about as his team held an 87-play scrimmage at Thomas-Drew field Saturday afternoon.

Price said he was especially pleased with the physicality of his players.  "The hitting was crisp, blocking and especially tackling," he said.  "There were some pretty hard hits out there."

Price commented that both Brodie Croyle as well as Spencer Pennington had very good days at quarterback, saying that Pennington "had his best day of spring."  Croyle had several completions after escaping pressure from the defensive line.

"Boy he can make plays out of the pocket," Price said.  "He did a real nice job of finding open receivers."

Price had praise for every offensive group.  "I think we are progressing at the wide receiver position," he said.  "I liked our tight ends.  (David) Cavan caught the ball well, Clint Johnston played well.  I think our backs ran well but they didn't break any long runs because the defense is so fast."

On the defensive side of the ball, Mark Anderson had a good day after moving from outside linebacker to defensive end.  Anderson had two sacks and one pass deflection.  Charlie Jones recorded two interceptions, while Juwan Garth and Thurman Ward both had one.  Garth returned his pick for a touchdown.

Price said that the punters kicked the ball well, but that the place-kickers did not have such a good day.

Price made no mistake about the fact that he hopes this year's A-day game sets a new attendance record for an Alabama spring game.  The previous record came in 1988, when an estimated 51,000 fans attended A-day at Birmingham's Legion Field while Bryant-Denny was being renovated.

Price said that he wants to put a show next Saturday.  "We want to entertain the 55,000 fans we have Saturday,"

The A-Day game begins at 1 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday.  The team and coach Price will also sign autographs in Coleman Coliseum at Fan Day, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and lasts two hours.
