TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- When Alabama hosts Hawaii on Sept. 2 to open the 2006 football season, Crimson Tide fans will be entertained by several new scoreboards and digital advertising displays that will be the largest ever installed at an outdoor collegiate stadium.
A pair of new video displays, featuring Daktronics VideoPlus display technology, will be added in the northeast and northwest corners. The video screens will measure approximately 20 feet high and 34.5 feet wide.
Alabama fans will also notice displays that will run the length of Bryant-Denny Stadium on both the east and west sides measuring 420 feet long and four feet high, the largest ever installed in a college setting.
"We are excited about the possibilities that the new scoreboards and displays will bring to an already great setting," said Alabama's Director of Athletics Mal Moore. "These new screens and display boards will enhance the ability of our fans to enjoy the game."
The four displays will combine to have more than 2.3 million individual red, green and blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) that present live and recorded video images, colorful animation and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility. In game progress information, team and player stats, full-color animation and cropped video clips can also be shown to add entertainment and raise fan enthusiasm during games.

"This installation will set a new standard for collegiate facilities, while providing Crimson Tide fans with the added advantage of entertainment and game information at an exceptional level."
The new displays are part of a $50 million stadium renovation to the north end zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium that began following the 2005 season and is scheduled for completion by July, 2006.
