TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team completed its eighth workout of spring football drills Saturday morning with a 92-play scrimmage before an estimated crowd of 1000 spectators at UA's practice field.

"It was good. A lot of good things happened out there.  (We) had 92 plays and don't think we got anybody seriously hurt," Alabama head coach Mike Price said.  Other positives that Price commented on specifically included the play of quarterback Spencer Pennington and an improved effort by the defense.

Pennington's good play was made more impressive by the fact that, as a member of the Crimson Tide baseball team, he remained at the baseball stadium until the early-morning hours due to a rain delay in Friday night's game.  "Spencer played pretty well at QB," Price said.  "I think those guys stayed up there until 1:15 (a.m.). That's asking a lot of out a college athlete.

"On defense, we ran to the ball and hit and played better than we did in previous scrimmages. We had some better players out there on defense too.  They did a better job shutting down the run."

Price also commented on the kicking game, saying that punters Jeff Aul and Bo Freeland and placekickers Brian Bostick and Kyle Robinson had separated themselves from the other candidates for the respective jobs.

Price said that the first-string players played much more today than in last week's scrimmage.  "It wasn't just playing everybody," he said.  "The first string guys have to learn the offense and defense before the backups play. We'll probably have a scrimmage Wednesday where the backups will play."

Practices next week will continue the same scheduled start-time of 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
